From Japan: Takuma Tanaka...

Julian Espinal Art Poject presents...

Human Sushi in Heaven
50" x 60"
Oil on Linen
2019
Mixture of urban art with expressionism, sometimes irreverent in the social theme and with the natural ingenuity that subtly coexists in his work, so we can understand and deepen in what is the message that the artist wants to project, Takuma Tanaka.
His impressive large-scale works, accompanied by the scent of oil, which is his main medium in the universe of pigments, that make the artist's work, an indefinite carnival of colors and a touch of surrealism, that delight the eye of the expectators.
Among the projects scheduled for 2020, its participation in auctions is present, in one of the most prestigious brokerage houses in New York City, in addition to an individual exhibition entitled “SUSHI PEOPLE” at JULIAN ESPINAL ART PROJECT, projected for the summer.
It is very satisfying and proud that Takuma Tanaka is part of our select group of international artists. Enjoy!

"I use a language where freedom is reflected in the use of composition and chromatism, I represent expressive situations that do not refer to the model known to similar or scenes photographed our reality. There are as many universes and situations in them as life and its surprises, for an always naive man who is restless, some are lost in these labyrinths without finding the end in this type of artistic representation."

Alfonso Vargas Puerta: A Pictorial Proposal

Compás de Agua
37” x 47”  - Mixed Media

By Juan Coello

From the primitive tribe, over there in the mists of time, humanity has guided its daily life in the vast universe that it implies -by certain schemes endorsed either by experience- common in day-to-day things- or by the ascendancy of those who postulate them, derived from their political, economic or social position. The transgression and substitution of these paradigms has marked the advance of civilization in all its fronts, and this process, slow in the past, has been happening in an accelerated way since the last century and a half.

Tima
53” x 93” - Mixed Media

Art, whose essence is creativity and with it the permanent search for new fields and means of expression, could not be alien to this permanent renewal of the canons that have guided its exercise throughout history.

Diptico En un principio...
47” x 79” - Mixed Media

In this order of ideas, Alfonso Puerta’s Andean Chromatic Abstraction -as he rightly nominates his current pictorial work-, which arises from his atavistic Inca heritage, is reflected in his sensitive experience in a pictorial setting charged with magic and sacred mythology, that constitutes a true subversion of the paradigmatic lineaments of Abstract Expressionism.

Poshyita
63” x 70 1/2” - Mixed Media

The artist scientist Alfonso Puerta affirms that his pictorial work is based on the following postulate, Andean correlate of the Cartesian apothegm: Kai Human (I think) Kai Soncqo (I feel) Kai Maqui (I do, I transform) ... THEN I EXIST.

Aves Eternas
37” x 47 1/2”  - Mixed Media

Faithful to this guideline, the hamuta (maestro) Alfonso Puerta tells us that the Andean Chromatic Abstraction comes to life at the incantation of its creator and expresses itself aesthetically in exuberantly colorful landscapes that have survived from time immemorial in the collective unconscious of his race on a scale of ultra sensitive experience. The Andean genome transmits this Andean ancestral worldview to the influence of certain vegetable substances that expand the consciousness.

Serie Flores Eternas
20” x 21 1/2” - Mixed Media

The Andean Chromatic Abstraction of Alfonso Vargas Puerta emerges from this particular way of experiencing the chromatic fields and is concretely mastered in a harmonious set of nature in hatching, profusion of color and human language.

Bodegón con Sandía
31 1/2” x 37 1/2” - Mixed Media

It is an energetic painting that connotes and denotes encrypted knowledge. His mythical figures, indelineated, hidden, fragmented, embodied in vigorous strokes, conspire to show us the future and the past, and in them the subtle spirits can intuit the signs that Pachacuti presage (diametrical changes of existing paradigms) and detect the threads conductors of an aesthetic that is the construction and deconstruction of the Logos.

Serie Flores Eternas
26” x 31 1/2” - Mixed Media

The materialization of the myths designed to trap time in fields laden with magic and knowledge that will produce a deja vu will leave a subtle but indelible mark on our memories.

"Interspaces" by Lia Galletti

At Julian Espinal Art Project, we are honored to present the Cuban artist Lia Galletti, one of the most important exponents of Latin American Expressionism. Welcome!

Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1943, Lia Galletti is a painter and printmaker. She left the island with her family at the age of 17 and moved to New York, where she finished her education and started to paint and exhibit her work in New York’s Greenwich Village and other venues on the east coast.

Her father, also an artist, influenced her path towards becoming an artist as she watched him paint as a child. Lia is an abstract artist and has been painting ever since, developing her individual style and technique. She studied printmaking within the disciplines of etching, drypoint, linocut, silkscreen and monoprint. Lia exhibited her work and received an award at The Boston Printmakers, Brockton Art Museum, Boston, MA (1988). Her work is in their collection, as well as in the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, where she participated at the Ibero American Printmaking Biennial of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She recently participated in the Tokyo International Mini Print Triennial at Tama Art University Museum, Tokyo, Japan.

WINTER
Acrylic on canvas / 48” x 36” / 2017

With an extensive career and a life dedicated to the arts, Julián Espinal Art Project will be presenting from March 16 to April 10, the individual exhibition “INTERSPACES” by the artist Lia Galletti.

CAVE / Acrylic on canvas / 50” x 40” / 2018

The show is made up of the artist’s work for the past three years in which we can see a continuous evolution, both in the color palette and in the intensity of the technique (action painting and dripping) that is characteristic of its pictorial language.

INTERSTELLAR / Acrylic on canvas / 30” x 40” / 2018

Born in Havana, Cuba and based in Miami, Florida, where she has her studio, Lia has always projected herself with strength and vitality, into the visual creative cosmos, both nationally and internationally, reaping achievements and attracting the attention of collectors and museums.

NO MÁS / Acrylic on canvas / 40” x 50” / 2018

In this exhibition we will be presenting several large and monumental paintings that will impact the viewer due to their colorful and expressive power.

AVALANCHE
Acrylic on unstretched canvas / 66” x 48” / 2019

Among the future projects, as early as 2020, Julian Espinal Art Project will produce with Lia Galletti, the retrospective exhibition of her life-work, to be held in Miami and then at our gallery in Montclair, New Jersey, and the publication and launching of a book with her work.

SUNRISE / Acrylic on unstretched canvas / 77” x 71” / 2019

"When she took her first steps in art, Lia Galletti (1943) was most likely exposed to the last swipes of Informalism. Henceforward, Abstraction brands her as she integrates into its Expressionist dimension, with the result that these aspects and gestural elements lead her to dabble as well in New Expressionist representation that in addition appropriates distant chords of the Cobra Group. One never tires of searching for faces in this abstract style, as when we try to read the clouds, a camouflage of colors and forms from which we can unravel feelings and secrets. Lia, a mature and consummate artist, may be defined as an Imaginist who convinces us that Action Painting can also be figurative in style."
Aldo Menéndez
Art Curator and Critic
Miami, April 18, 2016

FLOW / Acrylic on canvas / 50” x 40” / 2019

"Lia Galletti, painter and designer, makes sporadic inroads in the figure though the gestural power of the representation keeps them near abstraction. An artist with a long and fruitful career, abstraction is ostensibly the best path to express herself. Her paintings offer the viewer a banquet of color, rich visual textures, dynamic forms that swirl together or against each other with jubilant intensity. Surprisingly, her black and white paintings, albeit austere, are equally authentic. Her art conveys a wide range of nuanced emotions, a spiritual harvest that undoubtedly stems from profound life experiences, which are never always good. Nonetheless, she transforms these raw subjective materials, valiantly and brilliantly, in ways devoid of negativity. An art that rewards the viewer with clarity and visual pleasure."
