Ricardo Santana: Strokes of Color

Julian Espinal Art Project presents
our exclusive artist Ricardo Santana
Enjoy!

From Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. From a very early age he showed a great ability for drawing and a taste for colors. He studied Architecture at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and Fashion Design at the Accedemia Di Costume e Di Moda in Rome, Italy. His great taste for the mixture of colors and his very peculiar fashion design and illustration made him one of the best known designers in Mexico and also present his creations in New York, Montreal - Canada, Dusseldorf - Germany, Miami, Mexico City, Zurich - Switzerland, among others. Now he shows us his very personal style of color and stroke in this interesting collection of works of art.

Noel Ortiz: Abstract landscapes & Faces

Julian Espinal Art Project presents
our exclusive artist Noel Ortíz
recent abstract landscapes and faces
Enjoy!

Blue Clouds
24" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, initially, Ortiz pursued a career in engineering, but in 2000 he began to paint, drawing on his experience with drafting, perspective, and form. After a few years, Ortiz felt that his work was ready to be seen, and he began sharing it with the wider world.

Cloudy Day
18" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas

Ortiz draws his palette from the tropical skies of Puerto Rico, colors meant to awaken the viewer’s senses. He begins with representational landscapes, abstracting them as he paints, creating saturated earth from swatches of primary colors. It is out of this richly imagined dirt that wonderfully textured trees emerge, back lit, often, by a darkening sky.

Living on the Rainbow

Working in acrylic, Ortiz offers a unified body of work that concurrently offers individual flare. “It is always my intention to address the canvas directly, honestly, and boldly,” Ortiz says. “My heart is always pushing my work to find new language.”

Magenta Sky
36" x 36"
Acrylic on Canvas

Whether I am working with the human figure or landscapes, I am always fascinated by texture, form, and color, which I use to express how I feel about what I am seeing.

Orange Sky
24" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas

I do not limit myself in what I paint or how I might interpret what I see. This freedom allows my work to move from representational to more abstract.

Faces Series

Reflect of Light
36" x 36"
Acrylic on Canvas

It is always my intention to address the canvas directly, honestly, and boldly. My heart is always pushing me to find new language for expression.

Silk of Light
30" x 30"
Acrylic on Canvas

The result, therefore, is not just an intellectual exercise for me: it is being involved in the “now,” always open for change and challenge, always evolving.

Cuban Artist Lia Galletti...

Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1943, Lia Galletti is a painter and
printmaker. She left the island with her family at the age of 17 and
moved to New York, where she finished her education and
started to paint and exhibit her work in New York’s Greenwich
Village and other venues on the east coast. Her father, also an
artist, influenced her path towards becoming an artist as she
watched him paint as a child. Lia is an abstract artist and has
been painting ever since, developing her individual style and
technique. She studied printmaking within the disciplines of
etching, drypoint, linocut, silkscreen and monoprint. Lia exhibited
her work and received an award at The Boston Printmakers,
Brockton Art Museum, Boston, MA (1988). Her work is in their
collection, as well as in the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña,
where she participated at the Ibero American Printmaking
Biennial of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She recently participated in
the Tokyo International Mini Print Triennial at Tama Art University
Museum, Tokyo, Japan.

Lia has had solo exhibitions in Washington, DC; Orisha, Kingston,
Jamaica and in Florida at Art Miami and Art Americas in Miami
and Interstices at the Capitol Complex in Tallahassee. She has
participated in collective expositions in the US, including
Caribbean Visions: Painting and Sculpture (a traveling exhibition
in 1995); Cadaqués, Spain; Ottawa, Canada; and Mexico City (VI
Bienal Iberoamericana de Arte Pedro Domecq). She participated
in the Art In Embassies program in 1995 at the American
Embassy in Kingston, Jamaica. Lia has received several awards,
including State of Florida Individual Artist Fellowship HM Visual
Arts/Painting (2000). Her work is in several private and public
collections, including Bacardi International and The Art Museum
of the Americas at the Organization of American States,
Washington, DC. Her work has sold at Sotheby’s New York. Lia
Galletti currently lives in Miami, Florida, where she has her studio.
